“I know there’s a lot of people that will need help, people that don’t have families to rely on. That’s not available to everyone."

- Luke Myers

For Luke Myers, his stage two melanoma diagnosis came after finding tiny spots of blood on his pillowcase when he was just 21.

“It hit me pretty hard. I just sat there, not really recognising what was going on, and I didn’t understand what would happen,” Luke shares.

While Luke continued to work as much as he could after his diagnosis, once he went in for surgery to treat his melanoma, he lost his ability to work, and was eventually let go by his employer.

Each year, over 33,000 West Australians like Luke access our support services, ranging from our physical and emotional wellbeing services, through to our accommodation services for regional cancer patients and their families, and our 13 11 20 Cancer Information and Support Line.

“My story is pretty uncommon, but it’s not something that’s unrealistic. If I had known about Cancer Council WA’s services, I definitely would have accessed them,” Luke says.

Luke’s story shows that cancer can impact any West Australian. Your tax-deductible gift today will allow West Australians like Luke to access vital support during treatment.

All donations over $2 are tax deductible, and can be claimed in your upcoming tax return if made by 30 June 2024.
