“We are very grateful to have you all by our side as we strive towards a cancer free future”
- Ashley Reid, Chief Executive Officer Cancer Council WA
At Cancer Council WA, we know the key to stopping cancer starts with understanding it.
In the past year, we have contributed $2.4 million to support cancer research happening right here in Western Australia, shared amongst 92 researchers at recognised research institutes and universities across the state.
From lab-based research to clinical trials for treatment, to prevention and supportive care research, every result helps us to understand cancer better, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it.
Today, survival rates for some of the most common cancers including melanoma, breast and prostate cancer is more than 90 per cent, and the overall five-year survival rate for all cancers is more than 70 per cent.
With our ageing population, and the benefits of early detection and improved treatment, it is estimated that two million Australians will have a personal history of cancer by 2040. That’s an additional 800,000 people living with or beyond cancer.
This means our investment in preventing cancer must remain a priority, and in the coming years our information and support services will be needed more than ever.
The impact of the generosity of the WA community cannot be overstated. Your continued generosity will help local researchers continue to unlock the answers to a cancer free future.
